Fort Pokhran

Fort Pokhran, Pokhran, Rajasthan

The Pokhran Fort was built in yellow sandstone by the Marwar Thakur, Rao Maldeo, about four centuries ago. Though not as grand as other forts in Rajasthan, it has a small temple dedicated to goddess Durga.

Inside the premises of the fort is housed a museum, popularly known as the Pokhran Museum that displays an assortment of armoury, miniature paintings, pottery and costumes which the Maharajas of the bygone era wore. Games played by the royal families during leisure time are also displayed here.

The fort houses some exquisitely built palaces including Phool Mahal, Rani Mahal, Mangal Niwas and Hawa Mahal.
