SIGNIFICANCE : The second largest cattle fair of the desert state
The Nagaur Fair of Rajasthan, organized in January-February, is essentially a cattle fair. Buying and selling of cattle takes place extensively at this eight day long fair. As many as 70,000 cattle are traded annually at this second largest fair of Rajasthan.
Not only the animals are adorned with attractive accessories but at the same time their owners also flaunt wearing colourful costumes and turbans. A number of attractions, apart from the trade of cattle, dot the fair. Apart from being the state's largest cattle fair, the country's biggest mirchi (red chilly) bazaar is also organized at the Nagaur fair. Wooden items, leather ware and iron crafts are also traded at the fair.
The Nagaur Fair has something for everyone. Means of entertainment includes sports such as camel races, tug-of-war, cockfights and bullock races. Add to it, jugglers, storytellers and campfires contribute to the excitement. The folk music echoes through the serenity of the desert.
