Rajsamand Lake

Rajsamand LakeRajsamand Lake, also known as Rajsamudra Lake, is a very popular lake of Udaipur. It was built by Maharana Raj Singh in the 17th century. It is located between the towns of Rajnagar and Kankroli which are not very far off from Udaipur. Spend an evening on the lake and enjoy the nature at its best. It is a huge lake with a dam and many beautiful arches and chhatris (cenotaphs)on its embankment. The main source of water to this lake is river Gomti. One of the attractions here is the five 'toranas'(weighing arches) where the Maharaja andhis descendants used to weigh themselves in gold and then distributed that to the brahmans. The poetic pavilions decorated with pictures of the Sun, Gods, birds etc. catch attention.
