Mewar Festival

It is one of the most celebrated festivals in Rajasthan marking the arrival of spring. It coincides with the festival of Gangaur in Udaipur which adds more fun to it. It falls between March and April. It is celebrated with great pomp and show. The people are so enthusiastic about it that they starts its preparation months ahead. The whole city is decorated like a bride. The women takes the lead in this festival. Idols of Issar and Gangaur, manifestations of Lord Shiv and goddess Parvati are worshiped by married women for long life of their husbands and happy married life and by spinsters for husbands like Lord Shiva.. During the festival women adorn themselves in classy clothes and jewelry and come out together in the streets for colorful processions. Local artists (called especially for the event)perform dances and sing songs while the procession is carried out. Fire work is the last but the most interesting activity of this festival. At the end of this three days long festival the divine idols are taken to lake Pichola.
