Occupying an area of 1.5 sq km Lake Pichola is believed to have got its name from a small village Picholi situated on its banks. The lake has two beautiful palaces in the middle and the credit goes to Maharaja Jagjit Singh. One of them is called Jag Niwas (popularly known as the Lake Palace) and the other Jag Mandir.City Palace,the largest palace of Rajasthan constructed in granite and white marble is a perfect example of royal abode of the then Maharajas. Its foundation was laid by Maharana Udai Singh of the Sisodia Rajput clan. Later succeeding Maharajas also contributed to its architectural beauty.The place is proud of Sheesh Mahal (The Mirror Palace), Krishna Vilas (The Abode of Lord Krishna), Chini Chitrashala (Chinese Art Gallery), Mor Chowk (Peacock Court) and the Amar Vilas (The Eernal Abode) which are present in its complex. Lake Pichola is a perfect example of many destinations rolled into one.
