A Fairytale Palace

An Overview

Situated peacefully on the banks of Lake Pichola, it is the largest palace of Rajasthan. Beautifully constructed in granite and white marble, the palace is a perfect specimen of royal abode of the then Maharajas. The palace overlooks Pichola Lake which gives it a picture perfect look.

History

Its foundation was laid by Maharana Udai Singh of the Sisodia Rajput clan. Later succeeding Maharajas also contributed to its architectural beauty. It was constructed in Medieval, European and Chinese style of architecture.

Inside the Fort

The majestic palace encompasses several buildings, museum, lush green gardens with fountains and temple. The rooms inside the palace are high on luxurious quotient. The beautiful paintings, impeccably etched glass work and antique furniture attracts attention.

It boasts of the wonderful amalgamation of European, Medieval, and Chinese architecture. The palace houses various towers, arches and domes and arches that add to the flavor of it.

Attractions

Manak Mahal

It is famous for a beautiful collection of glass and mirror work.

Bhim Vilas

It has a beautiful collection of miniature paintings which depict the real life stories of Radha-Krishna.

Krishna Vilas

It is a paradise of miniature paintings. These paintings portray royal processions including games and festivals of the Maharanas.

Moti Mahal

Popularly referred as the 'Pearl Palace', it is known for its impressive mirror work.

Chini Mahal

Upon visiting it, you can see the best of tile work.

Bari Mahal

It houses a beautiful garden.

Zenana Mahal

It was the royal apartment of the queens.

Raj Aangan

It is the oldest place in the palace which served as courtyard for Maharajas. Arena for elephant fights is another attraction here.

Temples

Inside the city palace, you can visit Jagdish Temple, which is the biggest temple of Udaipur. This temple attracts to the aesthetic sense of the tourists.

An ancient temple devoted to Lord Vishnu is a part of the Palace complex. It is the biggest and extremely beautiful temple of Udaipur.

Museum

Some of the part of the palace has been given a form of museum where ancient royal objects, swords and other artifacts are on display.
