Ajmer

 

Dargah AjmerAjmer was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th century. It is till date a secular town even when religious intolerance has grabbed the nation.

Climate :

The summers in Ajmer are pretty hot while the winters are quite chilly. The maximum temperature during the summer is 38 degree Celsius while in winter it may dip as low as 5 degree Celsius. Ajmer is all green with its very first rain. The best time to visit the place is between March to July.


How to Reach?

Jaipur airport is the nearest, approximately 135 kilometers away.

Most of the regular trains from Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Ahmadabad stop at Ajmer.

It is connected with a dense network of bus.


Fairs and Festivals :

Fairs and festivals in Ajmer are not only a mere source of fun and frolic but they cater to the religious emotions of the people as well. The Pushkar fair organized every year on the day of new moon (generally in October/November) in Ajmer is one of its own kind. It is the most awaited cattle fair where the traders negotiate the deals of their priced cattle.

Urs is another important festival celebrated in Ajmer. It is celebrated on the 27th day of Moharram every year. Several devotees from places like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and even abroad come over to the shrine so as to seek blessings of the saint.


Hotels and Accomodation :

Hotels are any day a significant part of your vacation. There are a number of hotels in Ajmer that provide excellent services without much hassles. Pushkar Palace, Roopangarh Fort, Phool Mahal Palace, Hotel Samrat, Hotel Man Singh Palace are some of the hotels that offer you a comfortable stay. Places to Visit :

Certain places situated in Ajmer are really a treat for your eyes. The Pushkar Temple, The Red Temple, Dargah, Salemabad, Taragarh Fort, Ana Sagar, The Museum.

Pushkar, the sacred town is 11 kilometers away from Ajmer. There is a temple in the city that is dedicated to Lord Brahma. What is even miraculous is the presence of the lake in the inhospitable atmosphere of the desert.

Another place to visit in Ajmer is the Dargah of the Great Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Devotees come here from far off places so as to get their wishes fulfilled, especially on the yearly festival of Urs.


Shopping :

You can enjoy a shopping spree in Ajmer that will leave you with an unforgettable holiday impression. The markets in Ajmer are brimming with handicrafts. Buy bangles, bags, embroidered shoes, silver items, brass utensils and even items for home decor. Ittar is a local specialty found all over Ajmer.

The best time to shop in Ajmer is during the 6 day celebration of Urs or the Ajaymeru Udyog Crafts Mela held each year.

Ajmer is an amalgam of various cultures.

Ajmer is a blend of Hinduism and Islam. This is because of the presence of the popular renowned Shrine dedicated to the Muslim saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti as well as the Pushkar temple and lake, a holy place for the Hindus.

The total population in Ajmer is approximately 21,80,526 people. Rajasthani, Hindi, Urdu, English and Sindhi are the languages that are generally spoken in the city.
