The Desert Land becomes lively with the colours of joyous celebrations of these fairs and festivals. Rajasthan celebrates every religious occasion, every harvest and every change in the cycle of the seasons. Some of the major fairs and festivals of rajasthan are discussed below:
Nagaur Fair - Nagaur Time – Between January and February The small town Nagaur sirs to life during the Nagaur Fair. One can participate in several local sports held at this animal fair.
Desert Festival - Jaisalmer Time - Full Moon of February The popular three-day festival attracts the much traveled tourist also. Camel polo, camel races are the major attractions.
Baneshwar Fair- Baneshwar Time – Between January and February The religious festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva. A number of tribals from the nearby states come here.
Gangaur - All over Rajasthan Time - Between March and April the local festival of rajasthan is dedicated Goddess Parvati. Womenfolk dress up and offer prayers for their husband's well-being.
Mewar Festival - Udaipur Time – Between March and April This festival celebrates the beginning of the spring season followed by processions, songs, dance and fireworks.
Elephant Festival - Jaipur Time – Between March and April The festival is organized to celebrate Holi. Elephants in their colourful attires can be seen playing with colours.
Urs Ajmer Sharif - Ajmer Time - Set According To The Lunar Calendar the festival is held in the memory of the Great Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti. Pilgrims offer prayers at the shrine and seek the blessings of the saint. Organized programmes add to the festivities.
Summer Festival – Mount Abu Time – June Organized every year in June. The tourists enjoy themselves at the only hill station of Rajasthan.
Teej - Jaipur Time – Between July and August Essentially a festival for womenfolk it marks the arrival of monsoon.
Marwar Festival - Jodhpur Time – October The festival is dedicated to the dance and music of the Marwar region.
Pushkar Fair - Pushkar Time - Between October and November Pushkar is not only a significant pilgrimage but the venue of Pushkar cattle fair also. The largest participation of people is observed in the largest cattle fair of the country.
Camel Festival,Bikaner Time – January The lively festival organized by the Department of Tourism, Art & Culture, Rajasthan. Unusual folk performances and camel races are the major attractions of this event. |
